Testimonies from Homeschool Classroom Families

"My son suffers from selective mutism and anxiety. The Homeschool Classroom and Ms. Cohen have helped my son with his challenges.  He doesn’t feel excluded or embarrassed."    - M.M.

“Both of my children are learning to disagree without having an argument or walking away with hurt feelings.  I think The Homeschool Classroom’s approach is wonderful.  And this approach is benefiting and enabling all other aspects of learning.”  - James Lilly

"My son was always homeschooled and had the additional challenge of being dyslexic. By the time the middle of 5th grade arrived, our relationship was horribly affected by my trying to teach him. The Homeschool Classroom to the rescue! He attended part time and we got space from each other so we could have fun again as a mother and a son. I was so happy when Ms. Cohen and Coral attended his high school graduation in our driveway."   - MaryLynn Collins

"My child needed a safe, caring, and welcoming learning environment.  My child was classified as gifted and SLI while in the public schools, and his academic and language needs were not being addressed.  He felt unsafe and limited in his learning.  His passion for learning diminished while attending the public schools, and as parents we recognized that he needed an environment that accepted his talents as well as his deficits, while continuing to nurture and inspire his learning capabilities."  - Cindy Sanchez, parent of child who attended The Homeschool Classroom for six years

“I am not the first, nor will I be the last, to compare Ms. Cohen's approach to that of a child whisperer. With a true mix of instinct, intelligence, patience and creativity, she has enabled my 3rd grader to thrive academically and to regain confidence that a year in public school had nearly shattered.  She scrubbed off the "tarnish" and my child is literally shining with enthusiasm and willingness."  - Kirsten Emerson

"I wanted to share our personal story that speaks to why this precise school is needed. Why it is different from other schools and programs. Our highly intelligent, social, and extraordinarily caring child has health limitations that make daily engagement impossible and require a one day on - one day off program. She is also frequently ill and cannot attend for weeks at a time. For her, the current reality is - this program or no program at all. Because even if permitted to attend as she needs, such as in summer camp, she feels left behind because the educational curriculum and social structure cannot accomodate her form of attendance. For us, as her parents, it is emotionally and financially crushing to watch her drop out of one program after another. No other program in Santa Fe has the kind of scope and flexibility that meets each child exactly where they are, as they are and helps them flourish. Supports their gifts and wraps itself around their limitations, so that their gifts can shine and grow as the child leans on this school for support where they need it most."  - Eve Searles

We think The Homeschool Classroom should continue! It’s truly a gem of a resource for this community. It’s the only top quality, affordable, educational center for so many students and families seeking a customized learning experience. Ms. Cohen’s classroom is a vital resource that meets diverse needs and provides a safe container that fosters confidence in children to believe in themselves and each other. It’s a space for learning without fear, and without distractions and challenges that might be experienced in public and private schools that cannot devote personalized instruction and guidance. The Homeschool Classroom is the best alternative, holistic, academic learning environment in all of Santa Fe and should continue to bless so many students and families that benefit from all they offer. - Author, Amy Buetens
